PlaySEGA: Play SEGA Games Online… Officially

So SEGA have done something that should of been done a long time ago… allow you to play (their) retro classics through your web browser as well some brand new games especially for PlaySEGA.

Yay for time wasting at work now!

To be honest, this is very cool for the simple pleasure of playing old SEGA games on any machine and saving your score online for others to see and beat. Pretty nifty espcially as there are 40 Mega Drive games already up including the complete versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Altered Beast, Ecco the Dolphin, Virtua Fighter 2; they are even stating they will be adding more games weekly.

There’s even a little extra in that this is the first time you’ll be able to make your own levels for certain games. At the moment it’s only Stuntmaster MotoCross 2 (think Trials HD on XBLA) and… Sonic the Hedgehog. So you will be able to create your own levels for Sonic the Hedgehog, play and share them with others.

This isn’t a 100% free though, there are certain games that you’ll have to pay to play and unfortunatly that includes all the Mega Drive games at the moment as well as the level creators and some others on the list. You’ll need a VIP account to play these, but don’t fret!

SEGA has given me a link and promotion code to get some nifty stuff and freebies.
