Sony’s E3 Keynote Rundown

I must say, I rather enjoyed watching Sony’s keynote at E3. It was nice to see they poked a bit… a lot of fun at themselves over the press leaks. But they went head with it all and at the end of the day, it paid off. As was said they aren’t “getting outdone by them [press leaks]”

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)
Some (pre-recorded) live gameplay footage of Uncharted 2 was shown off. Really look impressive showing off a large city landscape with various textures and Nate is still wearing the same clothes (the dirt shows). Followed by a female character leading possibilities as the woman from the first game. Gameplay is very much the same, which is good as it worked so well last time.

MAG (PS3)
Showing  off live gameplay with 256… yes, 256 other players live… no bots, real people. The world shows off a lot of detail especially with the amount going on. Looks similar in gameplay to say Call of Duty 4 and Battlefield 2. Apparently this is only possible on the PS3.

PSP Go, aka ‘The Worst Kept Secret of E3″
(Yes, that is a quote from Kaz him-self) Showing much the bump we (shouldn’t) of seen before, they really are focusing on the digitial distribution aspect of the PSP Go. Releasing Media Go to replace Media Manger on PC – no Mac support was said though – to allow download of game content as well as music and videos to be delivered natively to the PSP Go (and PSP). More push that they are no stopping the PSP or UMD but doing a side-by-side release of the platform. They’ve include a new software for music playing called “Sense Me” that will look at your play list then you can decide a mood and Sense Me will select the play list best suited to your mood.
The PSP Go will cost around $249 and 249 Euros (probably around £200-220 then).

Grand Turismo (PSP Go (I think))
Running at 60fps with  ”800 cars 35 track 26 layout varieties on those tracks”, it’s a full Grand Turismo game and not a cut down. Ad-hoc mode allows racing with 4 players and also trading cars with friends (sounds like Pokemon with cars now)

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP)
As I reported earlier, Peace Walker is the next Metal Gear Solid PSP title, and it is in the same universe/time-line as Metal Gear Solid but set 10 years after Metal Gear Solid 3 – so 8 after Ops if I’m right – playing as Big Boss filling in the missing link in the Metal Gear universe. Kojima has said that this is the “next true step in Metal Gear Solid”. Gameplay footage shown was very cool, cross between the graphics style of Portable Ops and Metal Gear Solid 4 with gameplay looking like Metal Gear Solid 3 where he’s in the jungle. Lots of confusion as he’s taking down Outer Heaven… and there is 4 Big Bosses… yes… four! (Will have to get the video on this one on here soon!) So may mean 4 player gameplay?
Due out in 2010.

Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy VII is released today on the Playstation Store. Some footage of Final Fantasy XIII shown off (due out in 2010). Also, showing off Final Fantasy XIV Online that is a Playstation exclusive title; and online (obviously) so a quasi-sequel to XI.

Home (PS3)
they are further expanding Home with continued support and showed off a promo video that was released a week ago.

Assassin’s Creed II (PS3)
Showing some live (pre-recorded I think) gameplay footage of ACII where the developers motto on the game is ”Diversity, give players more options in all aspects of the game”. Showing off a double blade attack on two enemies at the same time that seemed to both pleased and shocked the crowd and also the ability to disarm and use enemy weapons (around 30 in total weapons). Also, having Leonardo as a friend means you get his flying machine, so you can fly through the city! Briefly said but I’m sure I hear about PSP connectivity with Assassin’s Creed Blood Lines coming out on the PSP.

Tech Demo of the new Eye Toy Motion Detection
Sony passing off their Eye Toy on the PS2 was the “first motion controller” – feeling a little justification there I think – they’ve further developed the Eye Toy on the PS3 with some cool features that can now be found on the Wii and Xbox 360 (we hope anyway if Natal pulls off). Was an impressive tech demo, features do closely match those of Wii’s Motion Plus, but with the added Sony affect. it looks extemely responsive and does react to human movement and not just the controller in your hands. This should be set out in the wild in 2010.

Mod Nation Racers (PS3)
To expand PS3′s new “Play Create Share” quasi-genre, this title is basically Little Big Planet with karts. Create your own driver, car and also tracks. Track creation looks extremely easy; you make the tracks by simply driving around, you then can do all the ascetics  of making the track the way you want it. Best yet, by the looks of the live gameplay they did, the transition from creation to playing the track is almost instant.

The Last Guardian (PS3)
Leaked as Trico, this is the last in the Ico trilogy. Featuring a young boy an some massive beast, there is a real companionship I’ve never seen in a game before (it’s weird). The graphics are a bit more polished from the leaked trailer, so much so I had the girlie drooling down my back watching the footage! But it’s the same graphic style as the previous two games (Ico and Shadow of the Colossus), which is awesome to see updated to the PS3.

Other titles
- Grand Turismo 5 [more footage, no date, PS3]
- God of War 3 [showing live gameplay footage, Kratos flying as well on the Ps3]
- Agency [developed by Rockstar North exclusively for the PS3]
 - Resident Evil [specific PSP title, not much info though]
